'VOTED 'TOP 100 WELSH BUSINESS WOMEN OF THE YEAR'
'People do make their luck by daring to follow their instincts, taking risks, and embracing every possibility'
At 23 I'd graduated with a degree in criminology and sociology, had a great job with social services and a pretty serious and responsible 'career path' mapped out for me. I had some sort of revelation I decided I was too young for all this. I decided to quit 'real life' for a year and booked a flight to Australia with a one year working visa…. best decision ever!
Condensing the best year of my life into a few sentences is hard! but I'll do my best!
Arrived in Perth, two weeks later enrolled to study makeup artistry at the Western Australia Academy. Qualified as a makeup artist, continued the travels. Went to New Zealand, drank a lot! Right place right time. In a pub, I got talking to a group of women who worked for MAC cosmetics. They told me to apply for a job at MAC in Sydney. Next day, I booked flights to Sydney. Following week I’m living in a hostel in Sydney prepping for my MAC interview. GOT THE JOB!!..next 6 months I’m living the dream (stayed in the hostel, too much fun to leave!) December was the end of my visa, It broke my heart leaving that job.
January 2013 I’m back home in Merthyr Tydfil South Wales. No going back, absolutely must pursue a career in makeup artistry. Again great timing, a few of my friends happen to be getting married, they ask me to do their wedding makeup, thankfully bridal referrals started to happen. I spent the next two years building my portfolio, doing anything makeup related. I worked on a BBC project, gained a special effects qualification, had corporate clients such as MINI Park Lane, worked with fashion designers on photo-shoots, and secured a position with MACH Management. But my passion was definitely in bridal.
By 2015 I was a freelancing bridal makeup artist, and a writer for the beauty panel of experts for South Wales Wedding Magazine. 76 bridal parties booked that year! In the same year I came across Microblading, I knew my brides would love this new treatment so I found a course just outside of London and enrolled the following week, becoming one of the first Microblading artists in Wales. From the second I picked up the hand tool I was hooked and have been BROW OBSESSED ever since. Pretty soon customers were coming from far and wide and the diary was crazy!
In 2016 I won the Welsh Makeup Specialist of the year award…I couldn’t believe it! And the diary went even crazier! 2016 is a bit of a blur to recall, either microblading at the salon or doing bridal makeup at weddings pretty much sums up what I was up too.
In 2017 I gained two new qualifications with both my existing bridal and microblading clients in mind. I travelled to Vienna to study a new aesthetics treatment called microneedling, a wholistic skin rejuvenation system that promotes the natural production of collagen creating beautiful radiant skin. The ultimate wedding prep indulgence! The year finished on a high as I won another two awards and became a published author!
2018 was another crazy year! I produced and launched my false lash brand, after months of hard work Totally Lashed Up was born in November and has kept me on my toes ever since! the possibilities are endless and I couldn't be more excited! www.totallylashedup.com
So that’s quite enough about me, I hope you explore and enjoy the rest of my site (designed to be an informative insight into the services and treatments available….I like to think so anyways!)
